2084 will not be another 1984 (harking back to Orwell, of course -- not to forget the Apple "Super Bowl" spot). In fact, it will be much "worse" (depending on which side you are looking from) in terms of living under surveillance. After London's successful "Ring of Steel" initiative, next comes New York.
Meanwhile, the ACLU is crying themselves hoarse on "invasion of privacy". I recently saw one of their reps worrying about "Who has access to those images? How do we know that someone will not misuse a recording of someone visiting a doctor?" She still lives in the 20th century while we are already several years past the turn of the century.
Information can always be misused. In the 20th century information was NOT available to people for the most part. Today we have almost every kind if information literally at our fingertips. What we have access to now, is only a precursor of what is to come. Within a few more years, unimaginable volume of information will empower us to use, misuse and do every kind of thing imaginable to man. That includes videos of people going about their normal business -- and, yes, even visiting their doctors.
The world has changed. You can not analyze this new world with your 20th century references any more.
Life in the blog lane is new kind of existence for mankind. To thrive in this new world, we have to change, accept change and embrace this new reality.
